Petrol Diesel Rate Today: On 28th February 2025, the transport fuel prices like petrol and diesel in India, just like any other day, continues to change. The reason for this Volatility is the international crude oil prices, the exchange rate affecting the Indian rupee as well as the impact of government taxes. On the mentioned date, some variations have somewhat occurred in the petrol and diesel prices across many major cities.
Petrol Price Today
The retail petrol price today in the national capital Delhi is 110.50, 0.30 rupees lesser than the previous week. The figure for petrol in Mumbai is 117.20 per litre, while in Chennai and Kolkata, petrol is still trading at 112.80 and 113.50 per litre respectively. This change is as a result of the downtrend in crude oil prices in the global markets coupled with the appreciation of the rupee.
Diesel Price Today
There was also, a very small price change in the diesel category. Diesel price in Delhi, last week was 0.20 rupees more; the current price is 98.70 rupees a liter. For Mumbai, the diesel price was last week 105.40 rupees a liter and still prevailing. For Chennai and Kolkata diesel prices, the prices were now 100.90 and 101.60 rupees a liter respectively. This all becomes possible because of stability in the oil prices in the international market and relaxation in government taxes on the sector of diesel.
Impact Of International Market
The cost of one barrel of Brent crude oil in the world outside is going for around 85 dollars today. This price has not changed for a couple of days, and this is affecting the local prices of both diesel and petrol in India directly. Increase in the exchange rate of rupee is also one of the factors responsible for maintaining favorable prices of petrol.
Role Of Government Taxes
Great effect in the pricing of fuel is from Excise duty and VAT Value Added Tax levied by the Government of India and by state governments. Lately, the central government has relaxed the excise duty on fuel through some mechanism promoting reduction of the prices.
